Glossary: IJ

Imaginary Force

The force of attraction between the electrostatically-charged paint particles and the coating object, which carries an electrical charge of the opposite polarity. The imaginary force always appears to be located on the opposite side of the object from the electrostatic paint spray source, with the coating object in between and facing the electrostatic paint source.

Impact Fusion

During the powder coating process, the paint melts and accumulates as it is delivered to the coating equipment, due to the friction and impacts that occur when it contacts the inner walls of the paint passages at high speed. This phenomenon is referred to as impact fusion.

Indexing Hook

A jig that is used to change the angle (orientation) of products that are suspended, while they are being transported via a trolley conveyor or other type of conveyor.

Synonym: Hook

Inner Booth

Whenever dual coating booths are present, the inner booth is the booth located inside the outer booth.

In addition, the outside booth functions to prevent the entry of dust and debris and prevent the escape of paint spatter.
